Can anyone please help to ID this South Australia 4d Q.Victoria stamp?

Post by Chrisharonh »

Hi there. Inexperienced at collecting & using this forum. I have the attached stamp & can’t locate any info.

It’s not listed in catalogue and uncertain if it’s some kind of proof. Can this amazingly knowledgeable group assist please?

Thank you

It's not my area of expertise, but I'd suggest it may be a changeling copy of SG138, issued in a dull purple colour.

Oxidation or other chemical process may lead to the grey appearance the stamp has.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge of SA will be along to help.

This uncropped, blurry, fuzzy, lazy, pixellated, cellphone shot, is of ebay 'standard' -- sadly no-one has a clue what it really looks like in the real world.

Thank you. That had not occurred to me. I have not applied anything to this stamp but I have no idea of it’s history
I should have mentioned it has no watermark visible.

My thanks to The Sheriff for fixing my post heading and ensuring this “Newbie” ended up in the correct forum. It was very hard to know where to start.

Sadly, I am no expert and currently only have a mobile phone at my disposal. I thought a genuine interest was all that was required to join this very interesting forum, but if I have to have special equipment and extensive knowledge of operations as I start out, perhaps this is not the forum for beginners like me.

I have appreciated the sites broader discussions - . They are extremely informative

Thank you

Don't give up so easily.

This really is a fantastic board and there are very knowledgeable members but there are also idiots like me who have little computer knowledge yet I participate when I can.

Just lurk and you will find that you can actively participate, occasionally. I've been a member for 16 years but have only rarely had knowledge that I could contribute. But, I enjoy reading nearly every thread on the board.

Thank you for your encouragement! I find it interesting that admin of this group would be so disparaging. Sad really and not very welcoming.

I remain hopeful someone will be able to assist with my enquiry.

Well, whatever stamp you are showing, it need to be really sharp, and a decent size, and cropped to get rid of all the nonsense around it. You can do the cropping on your smartphone.

Only with practice will you get a smart image. Many people produce good images from phones or cameras, but a scanner and a computer are best for both asking for information, and getting the answers.

I can show you some really good images from the test thread, but what you can see on your phone only you can tell.

Here's one

This is a photo and it's sharper than yours.
