Age?

At least a month. The green ink did not even dry properly yet.

Provenance - that Eastern European ebay spiv who cranks out endless forged fantasy junk like this on cheap blotting paper, and then perforated with a blunt pin.

Please report this sale as FRAUD folks.

https://ocswf.ebay.co.uk/rti/compose?items=124163140793&seller=nsmnic3

This conman ebay seller nsmnic3 appears to have an army of shill bidder accounts, as not even ebay Bunnies could pay $1000+ for common Italian States fakes, that all allegedly sold - surprise, surprise he has many more offered now -

I was going to say my thoughts on this are a bit fuzzy, too... (nm)

[edit] My fault for being diverted by their closed auctions: should've guessed there would be another few replies. :)

Cooke, Harrison and Mullet will be miffed that Ash got in soooo early.

Most helpfully, there is a nice scan, clearly showing the laser "grain".

Aren't you curious about the back stamp? Is it the creator's mark?

Now listen here, folks.

I'm far from an expert. I've had the odd stamp I asked about around here and discovered it was forged or what not.

And you have to give it to this chap for a stunning design.

But even my useless, uneducated, inexperienced eyes don't need much convincing that there is something up with that paper.

And I laugh.

I reckon it might look somewhat fraudulent. It might even feel somewhat fraudulent to the guy who sniped it on eBay. But don't let that fool you. 'Cause it really might be a dud!

By the way – odd's fish, don't you think but here it is again from a different seller for a premium:

Good spot.

Identical pictures to the first sale. Now on sale in Oz. Being sold... as there's apparently a bid.

According to eBay the seller the first time around (in the UK) gave positive feedback to the buyer (c***g) - unfortunately no other feedbacks for them.

Well spotted.

For the record, the new seller is j.j.raison

Impressive, as stated earlier, that John Ash was appearing on essays for the 1913 Roos when he didn't even arrive in Australia till 1927.

The winning bidder on the initial sale has a feedback rating of:
4***k (392 feedback score: 392) £321.00 3 May 2020 at 11:46:04 AM BST
Yet the current seller has a feedback rating of 1464.

Maybe a different ID for buying?

I would guess the "Forgery" handstamp on the back washes off with the gum, explaining why these reoffers are MNG.

Initially, when I saw the headline I thought that a Kangaroo was on trial! Obviously it was in a kangaroo court (as can only be found in Australia) but then I wondered what the £320 was about ... as it had been caught stealing money in Britain! That is why I thought the heading was wrong (with 3 hours to go, do kangaroo court trials take even this long)!!

Obviously, the poor old kanga had been caught out and it was plastered on a stamp for its sins. It has now made headlines on Stampboards for all the wrong reasons! At least this kangaroo appears to have escaped the recent bush fires, sadly, which is where it belonged.

Looking at these feedback figures should prompt the question..Are postal forgeries a business opportunity?

Our Administrator thinks so...."I bought the only other example known of this Tasmania 1892 £1 Tablet stamp Sperati Forgery at the Sotheby’s Gawaine Baillie Auction in 2007. It was one of the new USED stamps in his £20 million collection, and many of them had been not seen for many decades. That stamp with genuine Launceston Duplex cancel is shown below. With the reverse of the Baillie stamp, showing the numbered BPA “Sperati Reproduction” horseshoe violet handstamp, and is signed on reverse in pencil by Jean Sperati" https://www.glenstephens.com/sperati.html

The original (creator?) of this item identified in an earlier post as Scottvisnjic has a positive feedback of 4434 over the last 12 months (https://www.ebay.com.au/usr/scottvisnjic) and currently has many reproduction stamps/sets on offer.

Somewhere between his original sale and this latest offering the word 'reproduction' has been 'accidently' deleted.

I have difficulty accepting that a seller with a feedback of 1464 would do this deliberately, but...…

So does the person who purchased it collect forgeries and therefore think that it is money well spent- an investment in the belief that one day Scottvisnjic reproductions will be the Sperati of the 21st century?

It's not as if Scottvisnjic has the market all to himself...the Maryland forger also believes that there is a market for forgeries https://www.ebay.com.au/b/Replica-Reproduction-Forgery-Stamps/139792/bn_7208420
