Wayne - works identically for EVERY Forum .. just did a test post in Sales Forum, and it worked fine as can be seen -

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=90853
No we can't see - Image

and Drag and Drop isn't available in the sales forum either, I tried a test post as well.
[Edit - can't add images, even as an answer on a post that I can see.]

This may be to do with forum privileges that are still set differently for mods? But only a suggestion.

As Glen has said, this shouldn't be the case, but it does seem to be.

To save anyone else reporting it, this is currently under investigation by the Techies.

A small point:

previously when quoting the Address of another thread we were encouraged to use the " Insert url" facility so that the quote came out as "https://www. stampboards etc." rather than just "viewtopic etc.". Although this facility is still available the result is the latter form. Is this O.K.? (as about to start a new thread).

Otherwise all great!

Mods have raised this internally. I do not like it either, and will discuss with Yuriy what our options are on this one, going forward.

I do not like any links truncated here, except the super long ones.

Trying now Quote. Doesn't seem to truncate as apparently did before so may not matter?

Since I am getting a different result this may be Browser dependent? (On Chrome).

Yuriy for 15 years, we have urged members to add a link, highlight it, click the URL button that was in the reply box and the entire link appeared - clicking on this shows the desired behavior in first post -

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=191&start=98

Super long inks that sometime appeared Mods would removed that coding via edit but it was a clean looking board as a result.

Right NOW anyone cutting and pasting what shows here i.e. -

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=191&start=98

And adds that to blogs or emails to others etc is a total dead end - it does not work or open.

VERY strange that phpBB moved away from what was a VERY sensible and practical older feature!

I am sure you can wrangle it back, just have no idea why they messed with a VERY good feature.

As I said above this does not seem to matter as is apparently not further truncated on using "Quote". Why different users are getting different results may, as suggested, depend on browser used?

How this gets display is decided on the server end, so the behavior is definitely going to be consistent for everyone. Can you link me to the two posts where you believe it is currently different?

I'll admit that I am still a bit confused about what the exact problem is. Is the desired behavior to disable URL shortening entirely and just always display the full posted URL?

The older version certainly shortened URL's UNLESS the procedure in post above was followed.

I can't see leaving that be is any issue - just looks messy - IMHO. :)

95% of members, after 15 years of training, and requests, highlighted links and pressed the ''URL'' button.

NOW we have a URL button that appears to do zero when a link is highlighted and that button is pressed - I think that is what is being raised.

If you need to add a ''URL'' button next to ''CENTRE'' button to replicate what used to occur, that would be handy. :)

The current button appears to do nothing from my uses of it. No idea why phpBB felt this change was ''progress'' in any way!

I see. The more generic/correct version of this procedure is to right click on the link, and copy the address (displayed in the attachment).

Which will work for any of these situations:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=90748
https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=90748

But I'm happy to make the behavior whatever you folks like; it's not difficult to do.

Yuriy .. might have to do with each different Browsers?

On Firefox no such option offers itself to me. No matter what I do, I get truncated links.

So if we can replicate just what we had for 15 years?

Adding the ''URL'' button to right of CENTRE would be most useful, no matter what browsers folks use - this is how things looked a week back -

''The Good Old Days'' ... of May 202o!

Yuriy, nope all I get is COPY among 20 other meaningless command options on Firefox drop down.

Anyway we are not writing messy tutorials covering 10 different browsers, for 70 year olds who often have trouble using the very simplest features, when EVERYONE who clicks the "URL" button as they always did, will all get there comfortably in 2 mouse clicks in 2 seconds, thanks. :)

Also made the URL button clearer, as requested.

Unfortunately, to make the URL shortening fix retroactive, we'll have to reprocess all the posts again.

Does it now all work as desired?

We're up to about 15 changes at this point, the vast majority of which are in the style. I've kept a record, so it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to do.

Yuriy,

Running a fix and swap over past untruncated posts probably not really a big deal, unless it is pretty smooth sailing stuff to do your end.

Going forward having it there is the key.

Let me see if mega long links truncate of their own accord as hopefully they do!

Top one with no commands and lower one with the URL button.

Top marks - PHP software now bypasses the super wide pages that used to occur!

Well at least lower one does not make the page go super wide as they did before!

Yuriy .. if that is possible without too much stuffing about, well done -- anything much longer than this can be chopped -

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8846&start=450

Maybe 30 more characters than this gets the chop down?

I am still having the same problem with screen width, as I have large white spaces either side and I want to fill the screen width as the old version did. The problem exists whether using Safari or Chrome and I am using the latest version of OSX on a 21" iMac 1920 pixels wide.

Peter .. it does not seem to be an issue anyone else is seeing or reporting.

If it occurs in all browsers you try it on, it presumably is a settings issue on your device and nothing Yuriy can assist you with.

Maybe google the issue with your phone model, to see if others report it on some websites?

Well I have tried everything so far. When I and several others reported the problem when testing I did check the old version and that was fine and worked as normal which it had done for years. Yes I have Googled the problem and it would seem to be something to do with CSS settings, not being a programmer at this point I give up :D

AdmiralCollector,

Many thanks indeed for showing the problem.

After a lot of searching and talking to a "Geek" It seems this site is currently using the default PHP skin (I think someone else spotted it before), which is called Prosilver. This particular skin is designed for smaller screens than ours maybe 18" but covers about 1400 pixels wide.

There are alternative style skins that use the whole screen width which in my case is 1920 pixels wide. Obviously the previous Stampboards site was using a skin that fitted for 1920 pixels wide. Of course if you were using a smaller desktop screen or a laptop before you would not have realised or seen these white edges because the program automatically wraps the text. There are a lot of styles for PHP skins and what is needed is something like this one here:-

https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/style/allan_style_subsilver/demo/3.2

It gets better I found a website which shows the screen settings in use around the world. The number one choice for desktops in Europe, USA, UK and Australia is the 1920x 1080 size.

https://gs.statcounter.com/screen-resolution-stats/desktop/worldwide

Hopefully this can be solved as the improvements Glen has had done are brilliant!

That's not even an especially huge resolution; mine is 3840 X 2160, and the site looks fine. Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

That's not even an especially huge resolution; mine is 3840 X 2160, and the site looks fine. Can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

I have the same problem using the Firefox browser.

I use Firefox, and have no such issue. Clearly something to do with YOUR settings. (Of which there are many.)

Same with PeterG. (Which he has been advised before, but does not want to listen.)

And thanks so much for telling us which of the 100s of different phpBB 'skins' to now use on this FREE to you board.

We are sticking with this one thanks, which we chose after much careful exploring of options, and we like, and all others here seem to like and comment favorably on, and it shows neatly on their devices.

Next board YOU set up, go for your chosen drab grey boring choice, by all means.

Glen:

I'm not sure what I said to get this sort of reply. I'm sorry if I offended you in some way. All I did was say I saw the same thing PeterG saw. I did not express an opinion on the issue. I did not mention phpBB skins.

Since I usually do not view web pages at full screen, I rarely pay attention to the issue. It is not a problem with this website because the typeface is large and easy to read.

As for my monitor settings: there are only 4 of them: 1280x720; 1600x900; 1920x1080; Default for Display. I have had Default for Display selected since I got the computer, and have never had any problems.

There are at least 2 other philatelic websites I visit that also have large white areas on each side the their web pages (American Philatelic Society (all but the front page) and the British North America Philatelic Society), so STAMPBOARDS.com is in good company.

But, the pages of many other websites I visit do expand to completely fill the browser window when I enlarge it.

Hit a bit of a problem which I don't know if anyone else has noticed- part way through preparing a post which included images loaded directly decided to save as draft. However on reloading draft these images were "no longer available" and lost from the "Attachments" window. An image picked off a previous post using "copy image address" was still OK. Any thoughts?

I LOOOVVVEEE this new look.

Best part is you can upload the images you want directly - no more 3rd party sites and thank goodness over on the coin community forums, they have banned imgur as its just "filth" as they describe.

Speeds are quick too, thanks to everyone who has done this.
