I was a bit surprised when you said it was Iceland - I know they have puffins there which was why I guessed it; but only because I couldn't think of anywhere else it might have been.

Yup, Puffinburger & fries to go!

I recall a visit to Skomer Island (a few years ago now). There were lots of puffins and you could get really close to them - they weren't bothered. It was fascinating and you couldn't help but fall for them. Something was eating them there too as there were a number of puffin skeletons with wings attached in evidence. Probably harriers or the like rather than humans.

Vanuatu is the correct country of issue.

It shouldn't take to long to identify the stamp (which is one of a set of four) now.

Well uncadonego, no one else is stepping up to the plate so I will award you the baton for figuring out that the stamp was from Vanuatu.

The stamp is the 80v denomination from a set of 4 Hibiscus themed stamps which were issued in 1993.

Your catalogues will be a half century out of date in just three years.

How can you judge the prices for new purchases.

Just an observation not a criticism.

Well we are in absolute agreement on that. Also when a new set comes out the value of the last year's set drops precipitously.

I consider myself as being very fortunate in that my most recent complete set (2014) came as a courtesy from my employers in New York.

The last set I can remember paying for was a 1986 set of five (at U.S.$20. a volume) I bought from an employer in Los Angeles when the following years catalogues were issued.

Scott do realize that they have a problem with the paper editions and are currently investigating selling digital subscriptions as I have recently heard.

Kindes regards

The stamp is one of the Israeli definitive stamps issued circa 1986 -1992 and depicting Dr. Theodor Herzl

The same design and very similar portrait colour was used for a number of different denominations.
