I think it is plate 61. But it could easily be 67.
Best wishes,

Hello All

I have found 2 x QV 2d Blue stamps in some paperwork of my fathers - see above.
I have no knowledge about stamps and really need some help in identifying them to find out whether they have any value before I decide what to do with them.

I do hope this is the right thread to post on, if not please do move!

Thanking you in anticipation.

emason wrote: 23 Feb 2022 03:52 Hello Debra,
Your twopenny blue stamps:

The left one comes from plate 4 and its catalogue number is SG19. (small crown watermark, perforated 16)

The right one is from plate 5 and is probably SG34. (large crown, perforated 14).
If it has a small crown watermark then it is SG23A.

Given their visible condition, their value would be about £5 each.
Sorry to come in late on this but in fact both stamps are unit SH of plate 4 - together they make a perf 16/perf 14 matched pair.

The letter positions of SH between plates 4 & 5 has some similarities and the off-centre perf 14 example helps hide this, but while both plates have a part right side recut that on plate 4 is about twice as long as plate 5. Also plate 4 has a tiny extension of the right side at the top, that is seen on both the subject stamps. These features are marked up on the image below, taken from the registration sheets.

The final thing to remember is plate 4 was subject to lots of corrosion spots that are most noticeable in the letter squares, so when I see those dots around the H on the second stamp, that 'screams' plate 4 to me.

Sorry, Bill!

The image is too small to plate.
You would stand a better chance of a reply if you scanned the stamp at 600 dpi and cropped it so that only the stamp is showing.

I'll take a stab and suggest plate 167.

But Bill is right - a larger image is needed to confirm beyond doubt.

I have scanned them in 600dpi so I hope the images are clear enough.

Yes, it is a very fine stamp, which I think is from plate 120 (not 100% sure)

Thankyou to emason and pertinax -as usual someone can help. Now I have a question. If you right click on the image and then expand using the 'Zoom' icon doesn't that give a clear enough picture> I am still trying to master the larger image system as mine seem to work with some images and not with others-very annoying I can tell you.

And here's another for the experts. Could you plate and explain why?

Not sure why you posted this one again in a separate topic when an opinion has already been given above.
