Need help with identification - USSR 1984 Imperforate Pair?

Post by Safi »

I bought this some time back with the description plainly saying ''USSR 1984 Imperforate Pair.'' I checked my Russia SG Catalogue but couldn't find such a stamp listed there. Can someone help with the identification of this particular item?

It was prepared under the USSR but issued in the Russian Federation, in mini sheets of 10 imperforate stamps.

If I recall correctly, I’m not at home right now, these sheets are ungummed glossy paper.

I wonder if they were ever actually issued for postage? By the time of their appearance the rouble was low and many were overprinted for Ukrainian forces in UN Kosovo, and “Ukrainian Antarctica”.

They were. I have a number of covers sent within the period from Leningrad (current St.Petersburg)

Thank you vicaf60 and norvic for all that information, much appreciated.

I didn’t even know there were issues for Ukrainian Antarctica!

Oh yes, I know. I should have been clearer.

The very idea of Ukrainian Antarctica is enough to set alarm bells unless ther was a very definite transfer of ‘ownership’ of the Soviet portion, something that was most unlikely.

Here is a page from my collection also showing FDC. I have the imperf. sheet which appears to be gummed but I have not licked it to check! :D
