Good scans of certain OLYMPIC Stamps needed - permanently updated

Others might have what you need -- be specific .. you never know what is out there! But be CERTAIN you have turned "ON" your email access in your account settings, or no-one will be able to contact you. You NEVER know what members of this board have for sale. Do ASK for what you are looking for!

Good scans of certain OLYMPIC Stamps needed - permanently updated

Post by vicaf60 »

Some Stampboarders are aware that I am in the process of preparing my own Olympic catalogue.

It will not be limited to some formal Olympic reference - the Olympic rings or a dedicated text in the stamps, and would embrace a wider spectrum of stamps and mini / souvenir sheets - identified Olympians in otherwise non-Olympic stamps, Olympic art competitors, Olympic venues, and a number of other sub-themes not cover in conventional Olympic catalogues (that DO exist).

The first volume of the catalogue (Australia and Oceania) is ready. At the moment, I am working on the European volume that seems to be one of the largest (by continents), due to the Royals with Olympic reference.

In the process of compiling the catalogue, I search for decent images of stamp - naturally, I so not have a collection of ALL Olympic-related issued (the more that I am constantly finding new issues that I would have never thought of as Olympic  ).

The main sources are those that are free in the internet, including internet auctions (Delcampe, ebay, etc.).

Unfortunately, not all issues can be found in the accessible resources, or they are available in poor quality.

I would like to ask the Stampboarders for help with scans (if someone happens to have them and is ready to provide them, with a permission to use in my NON-commercial catalogues).

I would highly appreciate if you post the required scans (I will be continuously updating the list) here and / or send to my email.

I will start with the two issues that I failed to find in the Internet completely due to a very limited number of copies issued.

In 1952 and 1956, the Postal administration of Saar that was under the French rule at that period, issued Olympic sets - two stamps for each year.

Саар_1952_Хельсинки_1.jpg
A_Саар_1956_Мельбурн_2.jpg
A_Саар_1956_Мельбурн_1.jpg

The stamps were accompanied by a limited number of so-called ministerial blocks, of the usual French type - 150 pieces in 1952 and 200 - in 1956.

I hope somebody here, in the stampboards has any / all of them, and can share scans?

Hi Victor,

I have the 1956. If you need better resolution scans, I can scan again:

Anyway, thanks much for your attention to the thread, Eli :)

Next scans I am looking for - a set os Smiler sheets issued in the UK, with the names of all Olympic medallists from the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. I only have a poor-quality sheet for the Gold Medalists:

Великобритания_2008_Пекин_Медалисты_МЛ_1.jpg

All three sheets are needed in a readable quality.

For possible scan donors to see the outcome (and all those who might be interested, of course :) ) - here is the Australia and Oceania volume for free downloading:

More scans needed from the UK:

In 2008, Bletchley Park Post Office issued a limited edition of Smilers sheet to commemorate the Olympic heritage academic confeence held at Oxford. Unfortunately, I have no picture at all, neither good nor bad :(

The SG number is SC-TS-285, the sheet labels present a statue of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the initiator of the Olympic games revival.

The same is the situation with one more sheet from Bletchley Park Post Office - one issued in 2012 for the 2012 London summer Olympics torch relay - the SG number is SC-TS-440.

Next try, this time for Greece ;)

I need good scans of the 2004 Summer Olympics torch relay sheets issued by the Greek post for specific stages of the torch relay.

Here is an example of such a sheet:

Hi Victor,

I notice the lack of replies, and wonder whether people are "waiting to see the full list, before searching"?

I've found that when seeking rare (or ultra rare) items, I like to have the whole shopping list in front of me, before asking anyone or delving into boxes.... If the list is 100 items, we may only find five on first search, but maybe 25 over the year.

When you trickle the list out, people get fatigue of "coming up empty", so tend to stop looking.

I think your catalogue(s) is(/are) an excellent idea.

One of the ones you mention, though I've not seen the full sheet come up on eBay, does have a fairly regular stream of the limited edition cover deriving from it..... I also came across this in an old Smiler News ...

https://www.smilers-info.com/Q312.pdf
Smiler News, Q3 2012, pages 29-30

2of2.jpg

Horrible quality, I know, but it shows people what to look for.

(Norvic is actually mentioned is dispatches in that issue, so might be able to get you an introduction "to someone with a finer scan").

If you have your full list of wants, that's great, but if not, I fear responses might be quite thin until we work our way down to "the few we can find"!!

Good luck.

I swiped this image off ebay. Its a "destroyed" (in my opinion) Australian 'smilers' sheet of which you have about 60 images off my thread of them in your catalogue. This is one I'd be after a complete sheet of myself. Why I consider it "destroyed" is because some vandal has pulled the edging off leaving just the block of stamps-with-tabs behind. The sheet is from an annual race the Stawell Gift and this 2001 sheet has an Olympic 2000 silver medalist in the tabs, Jai Taurima.

Unfortunately, it's impossible as I am in the process of compiling my catalogue, and missing scans are only evident when I fail to find any in the open sources (by the way, it becomes more complicated for me to find them as my Delcampe account has bee suspended since today. I can understand the reasons behind such decision of the auction administration but I don't see what is the use of it for Ukraine and its people).
ViccyVFU wrote: 24 Feb 2022 21:41 I also came across this in an old Smiler News ...
I have this link and have used it; however, the news letters miss some pictures or contain pictures of rather low quality unfit for my purposes :(

I am in contact with Norvic, and he promised to help with what he can, but he is busy with other issues at the moment. So, I have to wait.

And now a new request, this time for the Netherlands.

Can anybody provide good scans of internal panes from these two prestige booklets issued in 2003 and 2004?

Another issue from the Netherlands I would need scans of real stamps, preferably against a black background - the definitive issue of 2016 with King Willem-Alexander:

The pictures above are actually draft designs from Colnect

No one? :(

Possibly, I will be more lucky with panes from the Spanish booklet from 1997 - I mostly need the four of this type:

One more stamp I can't find a good scan of - the 2003 variation of this definitive stamp from Monaco.

Монако_1998_Rainier III_1.jpg

The stamp re-issued in April 2003 differs in petty details of engraving. It is number Mi:MC 2434II, Sn:MC 1791Ab, Yt:MC 2182a

Hi Victor, I did a more thorough search for the contents of the Dutch prestige booklets and this is what I found. It really is the only scans of the booklets that are online atm.

Thanks much, Danny :)

In my catalogue, I'll have to limit to the booklet covers :(
But I have an idea of the contests now, at least, and I can make a list of relevant panes.

After quite a while, help with scans is needed again ;)

This time, it is Romania (I suppose, its modern period is not the most popular among philatelists :| )

In 2012, the Romanian Post issued a set of stamps with portraits from Romanian banknotes.
The set was issued in 3 different formats - in regular sheets of 80 (9x9) stamps and 1 label, in mini sheets of 4 (2x2) stamps and, the rarest, only 600 pieces were issued in a special folder, a complete set in one mini sheet.

I need good clear scans of the following:

- a stamp from a regular sheet with a label (possible a block of 4)

- a mini sheet of 4 (an actual scan)

- a mini sheet of 7 stamps.

Here is what I have (just for reference what I am looking for):

This time it is a mini sheet from the Romanian Royalty set issued in 2015, with King Carol II:
