The miraculous sales of valertstamps of Argentina on ebay

Post by 22028 »

Since long I follow the sales of @valertstamps from Argentina at ebay and always wonder about the prices he realises. Somehow I cannot believe that many of these items are sold at these prices as they are grossly overpriced...

Needless to say, all his offers are "private"...,

I like to post a few items from his last sales..., maybe they appear again in some time.

TIBET 1912 SET ISSUE ON COVER 1915 RARITY
Sold at $ 537.
OK, the registration marking is not often seen, yet the cover appears philatelic as it is overfranked.
Valert-1_Tibet.jpg
IRAQ MOSUL TO BASRA MULTIFRANKED COVER 1919 RARITY
Sold at $ 251,50
Mosul covers are not often seen, but this is purely philatelic and grossly overfranked.
Valert-2_Mosul.jpg
TIBET LOCAL POST 3 IMPERF STAMPS SNOW LION SERIES ON COVER 1934

Valert-3_Tibet.jpg
IRAQ OTTOMAN POST BAGHDAD BISECTED COVER 1890 RARITY

These Rules have been here for 13 years, but of course some members do not read them - Rule 4 for starters -

If you post a thread, or even add a post to an existing thread, re an ebay or trademe type lot etc, we have several common sense rules you WILL abide by please.

1. You will mention the seller, i.e. power4012

2. You will load the photo here of whatever is in discussion as ebay links all vanish within weeks.

3. You will post the actual lot number - i.e. ebay Item number 250395567873

4. You will also post the url link to the lot i.e.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250395567873

You will also when needed REMOVE EVERYTHING past the lot number on the massive links you often get on ebay. i.e.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Australia-Post-Stamp-Pack-1971-Christ ... ian_Stamps ?hash=item250395707923&_trksid= p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

Which just becomes item XXXXXXXX and NOTHING after that - i.e.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Australia-Post-Stamp-Pack-1971-Christ ... 0395707923

I don't know about the others, but I can comfortably talk about this one.

Here is the link to the sold item:

eBay item number:255543109686

https://www.ebay.com/itm/255543109686?hash=item3b7f8e6836%3A ... 7675.l2557

This is a real rarity, and the sale price is not excessive by any means. If I saw this cover in my previous life when I still collected Ottoman Empire postal history, I would have happily made a (much) higher offer.

There is one thing about Baghdad bisect covers: these are philatelic all right, but all traveled for real. The original manufacturer(s), to gain credibility, mailed the covers to surrounding small towns. And they did a great job with it. The arrival postmarks on these covers are mostly scarce to very rare. An excellent example is this cover that has an arrival Musayyib negative seal that I believe was previously unrecorded. If recorded, must be one of the few. A much better deal for the buyer than the seller.

Low resolution, but I'm still posting the negative seal for the record.

I don't see anything 'miraculous' in this sellers realisations. He's offering a vast array of covers, some seldom seen. What you consider 'overpriced' others consider a fair price. You obviously have a price that you are willing to pay. Just because these items are selling above your price doesn't mean they are 'overpriced'. It just means that maybe you need to adjust the prices you are willing to pay.

One Man's meat is always another's poison. Below is a purchase from Valertstamps which I illustrated in 'Bargains obtained in online auctions'.

First watermark NWPI 3d with transfer error from positions 19,20,25 and 26 on the pane with additionally two ACSC listed flaws. Fine mint with certificate (the certificate wasn't mentioned in the description). The photo on the listing showed dirty marks on the stamps which were, of course, on the scanner glass. The block was in perfect condition! Worth about 8 times what I paid for it.

3d 1200 dpi.jpg
One happy customer from one purchase. Their NWPI postal history is priced about the same as most 'upmarket' dealers. Very rarely find a bargain in that department anywhere.

So if this seller is supposedly using shill bidders to boost his prices, they obviously overlooked this lot!

EVERY foreign seller misses obscure Roo and KGV plate varieties, on ebay or otherwise -- they almost never own the specialist cats due to high cost of those.

I make a very good living on that basis alone, as can anyone with a set of eyes. Ebay sellers that use 'private auctions' do it to shill bid others - THAT much is certain.

LIkewise, I sell 100s of things a year from USA, Canada, Europe etc, where I most surely miss obvious plate flaws, or cancels etc, that they can see.

A leading dealer here (who DOES own ACSC cats!) cheerfully sold me this stamp this week off his website, for a quarter what I have priced it at. Not everyone sees the obvious in life. This stamp literally paid for my flight to Perth tomorrow. ''Knowledge Is Power.'' 8-)

I am sorry for not having participated for some time i had not been in a Forum Mood.

By no means i claim that seller uses shill bidding..., but at least for the areas i follow his prices realised often are far from normal.

Hs last 2 Tibet covers, crude forgeries, sold almost for the price as genuine covers. Of course, since all listings are private..., you cannot make it out if he is having just "very good buyers" for such junk or if he uses shill bidding.
I am often approached by serious sellers who own Tibet material for an opinion, mostly the items the have are fake, likewise, i am also approached by buyers who won Tibet items for an opinion, mostly also forgeries...
On ebay Germany i can have fake items deleted..., but ebay.com not.

Valert-12_Tibet.jpg

It is also certain that he is often having good material which sells and you can make a bargain as the Australian lot...

They probably are, but how many dealers know anything about Tibetan Postal History?

The covers shown in my earlier post has now sold again..., the same seller, the price realised now is far higher. I wonder if the earlier buyer failed to complete the purchase or if was bought by the seller or one of his fake accounts i assume he is having.
