Are any of these old stamps from a thrift store of any value?

Post by Thea »

Sorry folks,

I had technical difficulties while trying to upload 48 pics of stamp pages to my post. Let's try this again. My friend recently acquired a collection of stamps from a friend who found them in luggage at a thrift store. I am new to stamps, but am fascinated by it.

Please take a look. I don't know what's worth anything. Warning: some of the stamps are Nazi-themed. Most are Polish, but some are from the U.S. (30's and 40's), Lebanon, Egypt, Russia, Canada... Please let me know if you want better pics of individual stamps.

Cheers!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but no. Even those in reasonable condition are of minimal value (pennies, mostly) and those with the brown toning are worthless as collectibles.

The Hitler ones were printed in large quantities which exceeds demand.

If you have an Ebay account, it would be worth trying to sell them there. It's sometimes surprising how much people will pay for apparently worthless collections of world stamps. It also gives the opportunity for buyers to spot any varieties or unusual shades which might make one or two of the stamps worth more.

Try to use a title with plenty of keywords to get the listing seen by plenty of potential bidders. For example, "large joblot accumulation of many vintage world stamps in album stockbook" , or something similar. I recommend starting it at £10 / $10 and hope it goes higher.

Agree with the comments here. Very little monetary value here and reminiscent of packet material from the ‘60’s and 70’s.

If you really want to sell, I would even start at $1. Chances are you’ll get a few bids, but if you start too high you could stall.

The advice on key words is good. Will help get in front of people.

Good luck and Best Regards,
Joel.

Alternatively, it makes a nice start for a new hobby for you or your friend. I think you mentioned them to be interesting to you (or something similar).

Yes, good point Kimmo.

Lots of history in these stamps.

Thea, welcome to Stampboards.

Just a bit of friendly "Moderator advice" for future posts.

It works best if you limit each post to around 5 or so images - there are users in many parts of the world with slow internet and 48 images in one post can cause them bandwidth problems.

Also, if you're asking for info on which stamps are valuable, it is wise to number each image. That way I can say "Image 35, second stamp on the third row is worth $xxx" for example.

All the best,
Gavin
