I bought this booklet today, which IRONICALLY congrats the ozzie team for their result last World Cup in 2006.
Where, except for a totally dodgy last second alleged penalty against the Italians (the end winners) saw us ozzies doing really well. Hmmmm.
There is zero truth in the rumour that myself, MrBoggler and Lafaronau have been conscripted to Seth Efreeka, to bolster our current bunch of has-beens.
250 or so of the $5 PO booklets were then overprinted in Gold, and numbered, and this person paid $45 for it, his invoice showed. Value today I have zero idea. But hey, someone gets it free!
Winner gets this Booklet posted by me free worldwide.
The competition - guess WHO will win the World Cup, and who will be runner up?
Post your guesses HERE on this thread. You need to post TWO countries.
Anyone who guesses New Zealand will be required to provide a recent psychiatric clearance certificate.
In case of 2 of more guesses being right, the first one to post here gets the prize, so get into it!
Sure you can be a smartie and leave tipping until the last minute, when the list narrows down a lot more, but if you do someone else is bound to have taken those 2 teams!
Hey, Spain got beaten yesterday by those Alpine goat herders with throat infections - Switzerland, so tipping one of the hot favorites EARLY, sometimes does not pay off!!
In the case Australia wins, (or comes second) I will shave my head, and join the Trappist Monks on top of Mount Fuji for a year.
ONE guess per person only .. and your first country named will indicate winner and second country the runner up.
Take a guess on the scoreline if you REALLY want to show off.
HOWEVER chatter and abuse, and cruel national stereotyping is of course permitted on this thread!
p.s. and please add your comments on the ISSUED STAMPS released so far, or add new scans to Margo's detailed montage of them -
June 23 update, and new prize follows -
This thread has attracted a lot of interest, and coaxed a bunch of members out of the woodwork who have not posted for ages - years in many cases .. indeed NEVER before, in a few cases!
So far most of the obvious finalists for the main prize have been selected. That is not to say a totally unexpected team will not still win, and all members may add their guess along those lines for the main prize. That stays open to enter by all, until the final kicks off.
HOWEVER .. to keep this thread interesting I am adding this prize above that I will mail free worldwide to the winner.
This prize goes to the member who gets not only the correct finalists and winner, but the closest to the final scores. Clean fresh official PO FDC set of 2.
So by all means no matter WHAT teams you originally picked, and what scores were posted before this post, this is a new deal starting at this post.
Anyone can nominate ANY teams, and pick the final score line.
Your tip will look like this type of format - and preface it with "Prize 2" so there is no confusion as to what prize you are chasing.
Prize 2 - Netherlands 3 - Mexico 2
So you have another chance to win a soccer related stamp prize. 8)
I repeat ... previous score guesses, do not count for THIS prize. Only the ones made AFTER this post on June 23 will be eligible. Re-post any earlier scores you posted if you wish.
As the possible score combos of goals and teams are near endless, we will allow FIVE guesses per member on this one .. of course the faster you post them, the better the chance are, you'll get the best choices of team combos.
Remember it is irrelevant what you tipped earlier - if for the main prize you tipped New Zealand to playoff against Ghana .. you may for this one tip ANY teams - not just those.
It is unlikely anyone will get it EXACT, so 'nearest closest' wins, and if final score is Netherlands 3 - Mexico 2, and we get guesses of Netherlands 4 - Mexico 3 .. and Netherlands 2 - Mexico 1 -- i.e. both a goal out, the earliest of the 2 posted will win.
LETS THE GUESSES BEGIN!!!
n.b. - and like with the other prize, the Referees decision is final, and guess who the Referee will be!? And just like these FIFA referees who appear to cheerfully make up the rules as they go along - so will I, as my small tribute to FIFA, and their mad rules!
