Hello ebay. I'm glad you like those Crowned Tablet Canadian Federal revenues. I find the design restrained but elegant.

Later Federal Weights and Measures revenues are right in your collecting area, because they feature portraits of Queen Victoria. The detailed designs are unique to each denomination. Here are three denominations with red control numbers:

Canadian Federal Weights and Measures revenues
1897 series, red controls
Canada, 1897: 5¢ Weights and Measures, Federal revenue
FWM 34
Canada, 1897: 5¢ Weights and Measures, Federal revenue
FWM 34
Canada, 1897: 20¢ Weights and Measures, Federal revenue
FWM 37
Canada, 1897: 20¢ Weights and Measures, Federal revenue
FWM 37
Canada, 1897: 3x $1 Weights and Measures, Federal revenue
FWM 41
Canada, 1897: 3x $1 Weights and Measures, Federal revenue
FWM 41
There is a parallel series with purple control numbers.
Once again, the low denominations are, generally speaking, scarcer than the higher denominations.

Without the complete document it's impossible to know why there is duplication of values on this, as if two or three separate charges were applied, the total is £273 6d 8d from 30 July 1945 (£144.7s.0d), 28 September 1945 (11s7d) and apparently 14 November 1952? (the £131.11.6d).

Ian,

Stamp duties, were calculated as a percentage of an estate’s value, and generally had to be paid fairly promptly - I forget, but I think that it was within 30 days, of the assessment.

However, you will often find instances of settlement made by instalments. This is where the estate had to realise a sum, or sums of money, to complete the settlement. This may well have been having to sell off some property and as you know this takes time!

What the arrangements were with the tax man I do not know, but if settlement was overdue a FINE PAID stamp(s) was/were affixed to the document advising of the additional amount due.

Instalment payments and any later fines would of course bear different dates from when the original payment was made.

Two Judicature Ireland Revenue stamps. I think these were together on a document.

The value on the left one is "One Pound" and "Five Shillings" on the righthand one. The handstamp states "Consolidated Record & Writ Office".

Ahoj Ian!

Are you sure your maths is correct?

I make the middle one £131-11-6

and the bottom one £144-0-7 + 11s7d

Yes, it's £144.0s.7d - thank you for spotting the error. And the total of course is £276-3s-8d not £273-6d-8d.

Thanks to those who have recently shown us such a nice selection of revenue stamps :D

Amazing to reflect that narrow definitions of "proper" stamp collecting caused many past collectors to ignore (or even destroy?) such historic and fascinating items...

That's a nice Fiji KGV Silver Jubilee 3d marginal block Peter = PetCin88, but these stamps were primarily for postage rather than revenue usage.
Finding one on a document showing revenue usage would be a very desirable item...

The high value Fiji KGV definitives were overprinted with a vertical bar and bold R specifically for revenue use. For example, here is a nice pair of 5s revenues on piece, currently listed on eBay:
s-l1600-4.jpg
Fiji, KGV 5s: revenue (R) pair on piece

I'm fairly ignorant regarding stamp duty and other fiscals so I could be wrong when I state this is
a "Centenary of N.S.W", 2d Prussian Blue, Emu postage stamp used for stamp duty,- any correction or information would be greatly appreciated.
