Guess and Get One - New give away game

I notice that we were running low on philatelic games right now, so here is a new, very simple one.

It's really just an excuse to guess stamp images and send each other covers.

To play, we use one stamp, which can be part of a set or was issued alone. The important thing here is not value, but that the stamp is known to collectors, and that it preferably has an interesting story, so that the poster can explain it.

We display a small part of the stamp and the first person to guess what that stamp is gets the stamp, and of course, a cover from the person who has posted the stamp up. All of this has to be free of course.

To create a chain, we have a simple rule: the winning guesser has to put up a stamp that has at least one thing in common with the stamp they guessed, out of the following three:

1) Country
2) Year of issue
3) Theme.

This will give a clue to the next guessers and so on.

If the stamp is not guessed within 24 hours, the person posting the stamp here must give a clue.

And that's it!

Very close. You need to specify the country, year, and face value, but you are getting there BrewDog...

OK, I confess, I wasn't in the gym for that long...

On the set this stamp is from, it was produced to honor the heroic conduct of King Albert I, would stood with his troops during the war on the last sliver of unoccupied land in Belgium (by the North Sea), and through him all Belgian troops who fought in WWI.

The stamps were drawn from a photo by a British journalist (a Mr Speaight) by none other than Jean De Bast. This was his first work in designing a postage stamp, and started a long career of postage stamp design and engraving, spanning almost 50 years!

The stamps, in three different formats were engraved by the famous French engraver Henri Cheffer and produced in Holland by Enschede.

The first stamp of the set to be issued was the red 10 centimes value, on July 19, 1919. The 5 centimes value here was issued on December 20, 1919.

Right28, you are right, I really enjoy my time here on Stampboards, and giving away some stamps, getting people to discover the sets and engravings I like, is part of that pleasure.

Now, it is time to keep this going. Given that Ksan is the one who got this exactly right, it's his turn to continue the game. So his stamp must have at least one of the following characteristics:

1) Country: in this case Belgium
2) Year of issue: in this case 1919
3) Theme: in this case military (or royalty)

John, I must confess I'm generally not really good at these games, but I leafed through the classic Scott catalog, and I couldn't find it...Maybe a clue would be great at this point (at least for me...)

Got it! The Scott classic ends in 1940, and this stamp dates back to 1943!

It is Thailand, 1 baht blue, showing King Ananda Mahidol...

You're absolutely right, Mick!
If I am not mistaken in '42 this stamp was issued with a value of 6 cents. And 43 is the value of 7 cents.

Well I haven't found it, but here's where the reasoning has taken me so far:

1) 1969. I looked at Canada, but couldn't find the stamp that matched. Nothing in UK, and I'm pretty sure nothing in France, Belgium or Germany, or the US. I tried these because the quality (or in fact lack of clear definition) points to something printed before the mid-eighties, or at least early nineties.

2) GB. Went through the whole lot. No luck (or I didn't look well enough).

3) What's left is the aviation theme. That seems promising. This looks a little like a winter beach scene. Kitty Hawk? commemoration of the Wright Brothers' flight? I looked again: Canada or US. No luck. And then I gave up. For now.

Found it! Not the Wright Brothers, but rather the Centenary of the First Powered Flight in Canada stamp, issued (by Canada of course) in 2009. SG2602. Phew!
