I don't know if anything like this has been before. Try and guess the location and/ or attraction at this post office box. This is an easy one to begin with...
The initial clue is that it's in Australia somewhere. I will give out more clues if required, ie every 10 incorrect guesses.
The correct guesser then posts a picture and we keep going. The picture posted need not have a person in it.
Good luck everyone!
No matter how hard you push the envelope it will still remain stationery.

That is correct. It's the letter box outside Puffing Billy before you take your initial ride. Traralgon3844 its your turn to post s picture. Well done.

So, I'll try Germany and Bayern state... Now where is that town... I'd guess somewhere near the Bavarian Alps... I'll go with Bad Bayersoien because I can't see any huge mountains in the photo. But it's a wild guess...

The country and state are correct Gbondoni. You have the right region but not the city. A good guess.

I know where it is (even though I have not been there) but I do recall being in charge of the highest polling booth in Australia and the highest credit union agency in Australia. Both were at Cabramurra, quite some distance from your post box. There is definitely a Post Office there but I think that is also the location of the only post box.
I agree with Machaggis52… I recognise that from the top of Eureka Skydeck level 88 in Melbourne, Victoria.
Sooo we have a conflicting claim from another post box elsewhere in Oz… interestingly the building this one is located in is a slightly taller structure.. but as for the actual height of the post box, I'm not sure which one of the two has a higher elevation from ground level…
If you look closely enough, you can probably "guess" the location pretty easily
But that claim to be the highest working box in the southern hemisphere seems a bit strange, unless every town in the Andes in Peru, Chile, Argentina, Etc. has closed down their post boxes. Or every post box in the Bolivian cities is gone as well (La Paz in particular is really high in on a mountain plain).
I should have said - old - yes! DU has a history rivalling Oxford and Cambridge going back as a seat of learning to the 13th century. Apologies to anyone who has studied at DU or lives in the area.

So which is higher… anyone know?!?
I would have thought the one at the top of Mt Kosciusko would have been the highest?

I have disguised the name on the post-box to make it a little more interesting. And it's not Bristol (U.K.)!
I know at least one contributor who can guess this straight away - but which city?
It is Al Ain and yes, there is still an embargo on building above four floors, out of respect for Sheikh Zayed's wishes. Very clean and well organised, and not such a hassle to drive in as Dubai or Abu Dhabi, except tonight being the weekend! Well done Ewen S and Kevin Hedley. I think Kevin got it first, though - over to you!
This time last year (September 2013) my daughter and I visited a number of northern hemisphere countries. This picture does not give much of a clue but I will expand the view if it proves too difficult.
First name the country, then the city, then the location. Good luck.
It's obviously somewhere in a large industrial city. I can't think how the scan would otherwise be so blurred, if not for pollution.
The drainpipe & the brickwork are obviously fairly old, so on balance, I would say probably somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere.
Probably not in the Far East, so that narrows it down to Europe & North America.
Probably not a major post office, because they were built much more imposingly. In fact, the box looks to be at the back of the building.
There's brickwork in Australia that looks like that, so I would say "the mother country" (with apologies to the citizens from another 150 nations who now live here).
It seems to be sitting, somewhat precariously on a slab of concrete, with writing underneath- too big to be a mile stone?

Come on Kevin, give us a break!
Do I look like a nice person? A generous person, A helpful person?
All I will say at this stage is that the very measured, logical way you approached this can be described in two ways
1. impressive
2. wrong
I will allow time for other members to have a say and expand the picture a little then if necessary.
Having checked the shape of some post boxes in the Northern Hemisphere, Norway seems to have the closest to that shown, but there is no way to tell the exact location without cheating (image name) I will leave it there!
