Basset Hull's Queensland Stamps Volume 2 - does it exist?

Post by Greg Ioannou »

I'm working on Queensland for the first time in a couple of decades, and I've discovered that the copy of Basset Hull's Queensland book I bought a few years ago is "Volume 1" -- and most of what I'm interested in is in Volume 2.

I dimly remember a conversation on here about someone who was planning to update and reissue these. Was I imagining it?

(By the way, a search on here for "basset queensland" turned up only one conversation, which seems very unlikely.)

This post was made back in 2012. I could not find anything else.

Andrew may know if the book was published.

and is being used in part for a future book on Qld stamps. There is some
information in an article in "Philately from Australia" March 2012 P17 (the
journal of the Royal Philately Society of Victoria). I'm sure a lot more will come to light on this in the near future.

PS there is some more on the "railway perf" in the ACSC on page 1/66.
The Royal collection has a mint pair and the White collection (Sydney) has a
strip of 3 and 20 used examples. A Prestige auction in the last year also
had several examples, will have a look...

Found it, auction 171

lots 555 ( 2 examples), 556 and 557

The Queensland book by Ken Scudder covers much of the same ground. Greg, I am pretty sure I lugged one back from Oz for you.

I thought you might have, but my bookshelf is Scudderless. Do you have one I can borrow? (I have at least one cover I've bought for you but never turned over, plus a modest collection of squared circle covers you haven't seen yet. Plus a good selection of beers. And a relatively quiet weekend.)

Thread caught my eye -
Arthur Francis Bassett Hull -

1st cousin, three times removed - i.e., cousin to my maternal grandmother!
Unfortunately, can't see any of his works amongst the family papers :(
