Are there problems with sending board emails to other members??

These boards are a cinch to use, but if BB's are new to you, here are a few basic tips for new users to help you settle in. How to post, edit, how to add photos or avatars etc. Who are the Board Moderators etc. Please feel free to ask questions or add suggestions yourself. Add threads here re any technical issues that might concern you.

Hi mpr2000,

It must be a technical glitch which will be resolved soon.
In the meantime, keep posting and enjoy!

Small tech glitch we are having with a few accounts, often newer members.

Keep posting - we are working on it!

Remember, if you really want others to be able to contact you, the dead simple path is to leave your email loosely disguised in your post - then others can respond direct to your query, in a day, or week or month or year -- even non-member 'lurkers' - and there are MILLIONS of them - who find your query via google 'SEARCH' etc, can then readily contact you.

To save getting your [email protected] account getting harvested by 'Spam bots' simply disguise it as something logical like - Billy24 [at] gmail dot com - nothing could be simpler.

Zener,

All members can only edit their own posts for 1 hour after making them, after that they become permanent. That will likely be why the EDIT button has disappeared.

If there is a significant error in the post that you would like amended you can always contact one of the Moderators http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=250 who may be able to help. Alternatively, just add another post correcting the first.

Members can NEVER edit someone else's post, so you would not have an edit button on JKA's post that you illustrate.

Hope this helps.

Chris.

Apologies for the confusion and thank you for the explanation.

The screenshot was to show that I currently do not have a button to email another member. I added the remark about editing after I noticed that I could not add a pic to a previous post. Of course I understand that I would not be able to edit someone else’s post. Anyways, things were out of context.

A one hour limit on editing? Whew! I have never encountered that on a forum before so was flummoxed. Does the one hour edit limitation extend to deleting a post? Does the one hour clock start after your last edit?

Because it is a very sensible idea, and we have had it for 12.5 years, and many leading Bulletin Boards have it. You are the first member in our 20,000+ here, who finds it strange.

Members cannot delete any posts.

However, within one hour you can delete the content of the post.

Sometimes people accidentally make duplicate posts. Then they may delete duplicate content, and just replace it with "duplicate post".

I added this paragraph to show how the editing is shown in the post.

Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this. I'm a newbie member and cannot figure out how to contact another member through the site. Problem sending and receiving board emails - is it just me???

Post by Bill H UK »

Hi

Don't seem to be able to send or receive emails through the board for about 2 weeks.

Checked profile settings, looks ok

When sending, I don't get a copy to my email despite ticking the box.

I'm not getting mails people send

They aren't getting mine

I was just looking at the Admin log of downtime and outages for stampboards for the past 24 months, since our super MAJOR upgrade in mid 2020. We moved from the flaky and buggy and erratic servers in Oklahoma, and I see we have since had almost ZERO downtime or outages, due to our new robust and large private servers in the USA, with relay back-ups, and load sharing on both coasts there.

We have logged just a few minutes downtime in TOTAL over 16 months. An incredible achievement, given the large user and visitor traffic we have here, and the vast data storage and back-up now of 7.5 million messages.

Facebook and YouTube has literally been out of action way more than we have in 24 months! My BANK website here is down regularly. As are most Stamp Auction sites. stampboards is as solid as a rock.

Yuriy in New York as always keeps it all ticking along very smoothly in the background, and is just about to update us to the very latest phpBB software, with even more features. He sourced the hosting company after days of research, and chose SUPERBLY, I am sure all will agree. :!:

AND we will expand our storage to an ever larger server system, seeing we now have well over a MILLION images self-hosted on our own SUPER SECURE servers now - we are truly the Wikipedia of stamp collecting. 8-)

We are the WORLD'S number one Stamp Bulletin Board because of our million images, and the vast depth of MILLIONS of posts of content, and that costs money to do, and to back-up robustly and securely forever.

Yuriy is not even a stamp collector - he just likes us as a quirky fun project for him, and has helped out for a decade or more here, so I'd again encourage ALL members to do your bit, and fund a pizza and some beers etc via PayPal in ANY currency to - yuriy [at] rusko.org (Think of it as your oblique Stampboards Membership Fee, or Crowd Funding!)

Just 100 generous Community minded members sending only a modest $10 or $20 pays for a lot of his time, and shows he is appreciated by those here who benefit from HIS super back-room skills. Please do it NOW. CROWD FUNDING at its finest. A new issue stamp set at the PO costs that! :)

Think of just how many valuable things you have learned, shared, swapped etc, and the many new friends made here. All of them worth $20 or so now, I am certain. :!: :!:

All the US hosting is at my cost, and always will be, and that runs to many $1000s a year, but please do show your small personal appreciation for the tech whizz who keeps that all ticking along with no glitches in the background all year. He has quietly saved us from disaster MANY times over our long history, trust me. Spam attacks, hacking attempts etc, all foiled etc. :!:

Yuriy is one of the head coding and design developers globally of this phpBB board skeleton, used by millions of Bulletin Boards worldwide, most far smaller than this of course, and has customised the back-end of this version entirely for our needs - larger easy to read fonts given our demographic, added many different navigation buttons, very special attention to easy adding of images, and many other features not immediately obvious to the casual user.

I have never sent a text message in my life - true, and have never used Facebook or Twitter or Instagram, or had a Zoom meeting etc, so if you relied on my ''tech skills'', there would be a totally blank screen facing you right now!

There Are NO Free Lunches In Life - so, please PayPal Yuriy a Pizza and some beers! yuriy [at] rusko.org .... PEOPLE POWER. 8-)

Add a note here you have done that if you wish - but even if it stays private please do assist, we/you owe Yuriy a LOT. :!:

Thanks in advance -

Help, please

It was clearly explained in the post above yours HOW to get this fixed. All playing little kiddie games with each other, and wasting bandwidth doing it, will achieve nothing if it is a tech issue.

YURIY is the only one to fix this stuff, and if you are too lazy to ask him, please stop bleating about an issue he is unaware of.

Talk about changing diapers.

Thread locked so some of you can finally do some reading.

Need hep with emails notifications not being delivered

Post by Stamps4Life »

So Id like to ask If anyone can help with telling me how I can get my email notifications to work again? Ive checked the site settings and I think ive checked the appropriate spots and have the right boxes ticked, but the email notifications dont come anymore. I thought it was that my original email provider was stopping them, so I changed to another email provider, but still nothing. I also sent a PM or 2 and copied myself on the message and still not even a copy of the message to my email....

My spam folder is empty too so nothing gong there.

Here is what ii now have in settings:
Current Notifications settings

Thank you in advance for any help and sorry to not to be able to figure this one out.

Hope everyone is doing well and safe. Wm
All the best,
William

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago.

The person I sent the emails too never got them but my copy went to my email address.

Cheers

Ok good. No problem with email address. But, I had 3 notifications on Board, but I still have not received email notifications. Thank you for the help.
All the best,
