WANTED: Australia International Post Stamps ON COVER

Post by ephilatelics »

Hi all,

With Stampboards being the greatest meeting place for philatelists and collectors from all over the World, this therefore should be the ideal place to ask if anyone has any real commercial covers/postcards/parcels/boxes with Australian International Post stamps attached (in both gummed and self adhesive variants) for sale?

Image

I am a collector of these issues on cover and I am hoping to find them dated no more than 3 months from release, and where postage rates allow, as the only or predominate stamp type on the article.

Regardless of these criteria, please feel free to PM or email me anything that you think could be of interest

Thanks in advance.

PS: Also, I have a want list if anyone would like to PM me for it.

:D :D :D

You are asking a lot. Even though I am based in North America I seldom see many of the stamps you are looking for. You have piqued my interest and set me off on another tangent.

David,

Sorry about that  . It is a very hard (impossible) collecting area, made even harder by the fact that most of the material I require isn't even in Australia.

The search goes on, and on, and....

This is a Bulletin Board. We do not charge you by the word here, like classified ads.

You may have heard of google? Well believe it or not if you bother to add your long list of stamps and dates wanted, then google spiders will index it to right here and you may THEN get some gaps filled.

Hi

Here are 7 such letters, 5 to Canada, one each to France and Germany.

I can't check for the dates but I believe most of the stamps were current when used. Email if of interest.

Regards

Memphre

Might I suggest this is a 'self-help' project.

locate a collector overseas and arrange to send covers with the stamps you require to that person who will in turn return them to you.

If you think you will find them any other way you may be disappointed.

If you are interested in implementing this process, contact me. The price will be a mint copy of the stamp inserted into the cover, and you get back your postally used international stamp plus a cover with the latest Polish International stamp

Not happy with Polish international stamps?

Then organise the swap with someone from a country whose international stamps you require.

Maszki,

They would no longer be genuine commercial covers used in period then. I have faith that they are out there...

I can't really help you with the older ones but if you want to post me an envelope with a 2018 one on the cover and a MUH one inside, I will open it, keep the MUH one from the inside and post the envelope back to you. Win-win for both of us then and technically its commercially used!!! Happy to do this for all future ones as well! :D

Just so you know, it will cost me K6.80 to post it back to you..

Your call!

Cheers

This is a great cover, and thanks once again Girish. I am wondering though, does anyone have a similar solo cover that's from 2001 in their cover box that I can swap or buy?

Not so sure I would be hung up on the 2001 date. There is no subsequent $ 20 International stamp. Is this one still current at local post offices?

Hi all,

For the adventurous, the upcoming Abacus auction (1st September, 2018) has a 2001 International Post emergency print koala stamp on commercial cover (postcard) up for grabs (Lot 169).

Way out of my reach as estimate is $300, but I suspect it will go for way more than that as it is a key piece to any International Post collection. Let us know here if you are the buyer.

At least we can keep tabs on these issues on cover that way, sort of a providence record :D

Gordon,

Great study lot apparently. Possibly hundreds of the same covers with just a few different types.

Be interesting to hear from whomever ends up buying them as to the exact contents.

epiphilatelics, I got the material you sent in exchange for the cover. Thank you for using the 'Grease' and 'Jurasic park' sheetlet issue of postage stamps of Australia for the postage and for neatly packing them.

And also for the huge number of stamps, in exchange for the cover :D :D

A helluva lot.

Seeing as I have never seen one offered by Torsten Weller or Rod Perry (two of Australia's largest cover dealers), I imagine they are rather rare. :D

I have never actually seen one for sale anywhere, at any price... and I see a lot of covers. 8)

The FDC's are also very uncommon... I offered one for sale to a collector of this area for $75 and he bought it in a flash.

Abacus Auctions 1 September 2018 - Lot 169 - realized AU$550

So 8 Sept 2000, seems to be the original issue date?

Here for the record in case their website is wiped again is the Auction spiel -

Description: 2001'Mooloolaba' postcard airmail to England with rare solo franking of $1 Koala 'International POST' overprint SG 628a and 'Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary' tab tied Southgate MC '13/MAR/2001' cancel, fine condition. A modern rarity, presumably from a tourist who visited the Sanctuary in Brisbane and bought the stamp there.

This emergency overprint converted a pre-GST stamp (which was sold 'GST-inclusive' after 1.7.2000) into an International Post issue sold GST-exclusive. It was only ever applied to this particular P-Sheet issue and was not available for sale at Australia Post counters.

Mail Orders were supplied the overprinted stamp only with the generic AP employee Angela Thom tab; neither the order for this personalised stamp nor the date of withdrawal of the overprinted stamp are known, but in April 2001 it was replaced with an International Post $1 Kangaroo design.

Hi all,

The buyer comes forth with some more info on the postcard, and a request for some information as well. Can anyone help?

Congrats on a great buy...

Emergency 'international' overprint on $1 Koala on PPC, mailed 13 Mar 2001 to England

Image
Close-up of cancel and stamp

Zooming in to the far right of the cancel shows the postcard was posted in Northgate, QLD 4013.

The tab, to the right of the stamp, measures 20mm. This shows that this stamp is a Type 7, according to a Stamp News article by David Mallen (I'll list up the edition of SN when I can find it  )

According to Mallen, Type 7 was issued 8th Sept. 2000 and is a 1st reprint, P-stamp with 20mm wide tab. 1st printing (Sept. 2000) non-phosphor paper with phosphor varnish printed on the stamp portion, 2nd printing (late 2000) phosphor-coated paper, no varnish on stamp.

Anyone know how to tell the difference between the 1st and 2nd printing of the Type 7?

Cheers

Gordon,

Great study lot apparently. Possibly hundreds of the same covers with just a few different types.

Be interesting to hear from whomever ends up buying them as to the exact contents.
Hi all,

Anyone here buy this lot at all? Please, let us know what was in it.

Hi all,

Here's an interesting International stamp fact:

The $2.25 "Bird Life" stamp (SG3581 & SG2584, ASC2884 & 2884a) from the Lake Eyre series released on April 4, 2011 had a life of only 24 hours. It was replaced the very next day with the release of the $2.25 "2005 Portrait" (SG3586, ASC2887) International stamp celebrating the Queens 85th Birthday. Consequentially, that stamp also had a short life, being replaced on April 12th by the $2.25 "Royal Wedding" stamp (SG3589, ASC2889) of William and Kate.

Does anyone have any copies of these on commercial mail cover in period at all?

Also, are there any other short lived Australian International stamp stories out there?

Hi all,

No, I didn't buy that lot, but I did buy the seemingly cloned lot in the inaugural Abacus stamp auction:

http://www.prestigephilately.com/catlot.php?acode=600679&auctionnum=227&sortcode=austph&lim=

I didn't look at the lot; I was attempting to be disciplined (I had booked only 35kgs for my return flight to Cairns).

However, Gary Watson hypnotised me during the auction, and I finished up with approx 100kgs of lots.

60kgs went to Phoenix following Monday, for Box lot auction.

The International Post lot was parked with a relative, for future retrieval.

So, not only did I not know what was the composition of the lot when it was knocked down to me, on May 19 2018, I still don't know!
