Stamp collecting is a very visual hobby - members are strongly encouraged to add captioned images to all posts, and now this is easy with Stampboards hosting its own images.

Since our major tech update on June 1st 2020, you can add images here directly - from your phone or laptop or tablet etc -

Maximum Size possible is now 1024 pixels, a big 15% increase from the maximum on the old software.

Please do NOT add images via third party image hosting sites like IMGUR, photobucket, ImageShack, IMGBOX etc anymore, or from your own website, or an eBay or auction listing or news website or blog etc. All of these can and do vanish over time, thus wrecking threads. Any such images posted need to be manually converted by Volunteer Moderators, which is hugely time-consuming. Do it, and you waste our time and we do NOT like that.

Maximum FIVE images per post please (except in the For Sale Forum) and do NUMBER each one, if seeking advice or comments etc. Just common sense really.

How to instantly add Images off your device to stampboards -

Click on New Topic or Post Reply to open a posting window.
Click on Attachments tab then Add files box
.
Image

Clicking on Add files will take you to the images files on your device.
Select the image/images you require then click Open
Image
.

You will be returned to your posting window with image files displayed at the bottom of the screen.

1 Add a caption in the File comment box

2 then click Place inline - that bit is most important.

3 Press Submit
Image
.

Use the "PREVIEW" Button to ensure you get it all correct!

Your image and caption have now been posted to the board 8-)
Image
.

If you are loading images directly from an iPhone/android, sometimes images appear fine on the phone, but automatically rotate sideways when loaded to the board. In this case, simply rotate the image sideways (or 90 degrees) in your phone photos, and then save them again - then upload. This generally prevents the annoying auto-rotate. Using our 'PREVIEW' button will show you for sure. 8-)

Google ''spidering'' is ESSENTIAL to this board. Use detailed and precise captions in the caption box BEFORE you hit submit - you cannot easily add them later. We ask that EVERY image here have a caption, and the word stamp should be in most of those captions. Seems unnecessary to US, but google spiders cannot see that they are stamps.

AGAIN - Please do NOT add images via third party image hosting sites like IMGUR etc anymore. Any such images need to be manually converted by Volunteer Moderators. You WILL hear from us if you do. We may close your account.

Sadly the new software often JAMS things up. So we created the ADD SPACE button .. use that before you type anything, even words, or before any images, to stop that. It adds white space.

NOTE: Only click it ONCE .. yes two ''ADD SPACE'' html commands appear - that is just quirky coding. i.e. do not hit it TWICE as you will get very LARGE spaces then!

Those savvy members that use the PREVIEW button, will see instantly how that improves your final post! No more ugly jamming up of YOUR posts. DO join their ranks!

Near ALL mages posted here looked better CENTRED -- simply highlight the attachment image code and then hit CENTRE button as shown.

Also, when posting a string of 6 or 8 images, each butts up to one another - pretty ugly, with no definition between them. Using your ENTER key to add space does NOT work.

There is a SUPER simple and fast solution to add a few mm of white space between them .. just manually add a full stop as shown here -

Image
]Please test your direct image loading skills below! It is much easier than you may think. And always use ''PREVIEW'' button for your first few tries. 8-)

Normally if the file format is not accepted, you get the 'invalid file format' warning. It doesn't warn about using a tiff file, but it doesn't show the image either.

Oddly if I click open the tiff in new tab, it downloads and then displays for me, but not in the thread!

It is pointless continuing trying to post images in TIFF format as virtually no browsers support their display.
tiff.JPG
Whilst you can upload them, no one will be able to see them afterwards, so just stick to JPG or PNG as they work fine.

I can see it on my screen. And on the Preview and when proofing. And I see it above after posting. That’s the only reason I asked. I saw where tiffs were an acceptable format and wanted to try one more time to see if was working. I won’t ask again.

Just for info, when I right-clicked on the tiff image, to open in a new tab, instead of opening it downloaded to my computer - and of course I can then see it.

It's a 1.4 Mb file, far larger than we normally see on SB.

As a comparison, the pair of red German stamps above it are 1.6MB (a png file) and the Greek stamp, a jpg file, is 162kb.

Or you could scan as jpg, unless you want the tiff for your own purposes.

My old scanner does pdf, jpeg, jpeg2000, tiff, png, mbp, gif and heic.

I will repeat an abridged version with emphasis as the original seems to have been completely ignored.

It is pointless continuing trying to post images in TIFF format as virtually no browsers support their display.

AFAIK the only browser that supports them as a default is Safari which would explain why you can see the image on a Mac but not on a Windows PC.

Just stick to JPG or PNG like everyone else.

Got it. Will post .jpegs as mentioned earlier. I was just posting examples of what I was seeing as ive never heard of 1 format being being acceptable and another no longer good as I seem to remember .tiff being allowed. So I did not know where the problem lay as Admin said he did not even see on the site but I was. The only reason I use .tiff is because I was told it is more of a lossless format and not as flat as .jpeg. But ill use .jpeg here as requested.

Thank you for the help

Tiffs generally are a TON larger in size images, and take up a TON more data and storage, to simply give members the exact SAME image here.

They are mainly used in commercial printing and graphics areas where accessing specific colour elements is possible and essential.

I pay the already massive hosting bills here for several million images on this FREE site - not you - and if every genius like you, chose to load space hogging Tiffs, and not JPGs as others do, I'd be broke.

Got it AT LAST?

Have YOU made any donation to keep this site ticking along as seamlessley as it does? -

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=97166

Hmmmmm.

And maybe 1% of member here use Safari on a Mac.

As I pointed out earlier - which went right over your head -- if you cannot see your image on www.proxysite.com --- 99% of others cannot either.

Hi Glenn -
I got it. I said earlier that I’d post .jpeg. All I was doing was posting what I was seeing because you said it was strange. In case the screenshots could help on the tech side that’s all. Im pretty sure I said that. I wasn’t being forward - only trying to help. And yes I have paid - but only to Yuri. I have no way of knowing that he got it - it only shows as paid on PayPal. Sorry - I thought he was part of the team. PS - edit. Sorry. Had hit the quote button. Remove quote.

Well done - members keeping Yuriy in New York in Beer and Pizzas now and again, keeps this board humming along very efficiently in the background. :)

Far smarter deal than an annual fee to use this site, or covering it in garish ads everywhere!

He is working on a major update this month, that should also sort out the member to member email thing forever. Moving to huge new database and servers and bolt-on dedicated email handling software. :!:

You have to use the "PLACE INLINE" button to insert an image. Otherwise, as in your attempt above, you get the ugly white border and the word "Attachment" at the top.
Always use the "PREVIEW" button to see what you are posting before you click on "Submit"!

About that Japanese postmark:

Showa 12 = Gregorian 1937
Showa 12 month 6 day 1 = 1 June 1937
.

How many 90º turns did you make? If you only did one left, or three right that's not usually enough. Try 5 left - yup a full 360º more than you think is needed.

So I have tried every permutation possible. What is strange if I leave it horizontal on PC - it posts as it is saved (horizontal) on my PC. However if I position the image on my PC vertical when I attach and preview it - it spins it horizontal. I have rotated it every which way possible on the PC. Will try another image, Thanks for the advice

Your image, saved to my computer. Note that your top originally pointed right. My default is to Rotate Right; doing that until it is vertical (top at top) is only 3 x 90º. (I didn't try it at that stage not wanting to waste my time.) Doing it another 4 x 90º still ending with top at top, and it appears like this.

So I modify my advice, and say, "If rotating right, rotate more than 360º until it is vertical again. Then post."
