1999, 100 pf, 1100 year Weimar, German stamp, which variant?

Post by kuikka »

Hi,

Michel Germany specialized catalogue lists (#2028) this 1999 German 100 pf stamp celebrating 1100 years anniversary of Weimar having two variants. The illustrations appear fuzzy to me and seem useless. Could anyone scan both versions (feel free to use my scan for one, if it is good for that purpose) and point the difference to me, please?

Hi, I've been looking through my Michel Deutsche Spezial 2006 catalogue and found these two stamps with the difference between the them and translated it in Bing for you.

Type 1 - Hatches in the hairs or hair tips as well as in the collar clearly pragmatised

Type 2 - Hatches weak or less elaborate (unknown word) far right with forehead baldness

In the picture it looks like type 1 have darker shading on the faces so i believe the one you've posted is type 2.

Hi, I've just looked through my collection of these stamps and these two appear different. The shading is darker on one and the building seems more vibrant. (I apologise for the slightly blurry images but hopefully you can see it clearly enough)

The most significant difference you can see at the hair of the most right man.
Typ 1 some hair in front
Typ 2 nearly no hair - bald head

I think your stamp is typ 2

And the second stamp shown by parkgateman is typ 1
Not clear for me to see the hair on his first stamp because of cancellation.

Parkgateman,

Thank you for your pictures and translation. Your German is better than mine. When going through my duplicates, I saw also some variavariation in the vibrancy of the colors, but that didn't appear to be connected with the hair of the man in the right.

Wolfgang,

Thank you for the all important information that I should look the man at the right. I had been looking more the two men in the left as they have more hair.

With the help of both of you I can now tell the types apart. Thank you very much.
